The Executive Governor of Zamfara State and Chairman Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Hon. Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari (Shattiman Mafara) has on Friday 15th/06/18 commenced an Intensive Community Dialogue and policing tour across the 17 emirates of the state.
The governor who combined the exercise with the annual sallah homage to all the emirates in the state, emphasized that the new government policy of civil-security, was necessary in view of the prevailing security situation in the state.
Yari said he was deeply touched as this festive period is coming amidst increasing waves of attacks on communities and the killings of innocent people in various locations in the state.
Gov Yari said the heightening security uncertainty in the state, which forced his government to resort to intensify community dialogue and policing was in line with his administration’s resolved commitment and determination to the protection of his people.
He said the decision was necessitated by the increasing tension and fear among the people of the state, particularly the rural farming communities.
Gov. Yari said the essence of any government is security and would not compromise security of lives and property of his people.
He said he chose to use the end of this ramadan period for dialogue among the people of the state, as it is the period people, particularly the Muslims reflect on the one month period of dedicated worship to Allah and high expectations of forgiveness.
The governor who commenced the process of the dialogue visitation with Bakura emirate through all the 17 emirates councils of the state, also used the occasion to condole families affected by the activities of the cattle rustlers, armed banditry, kidnapping and other security threats.
Abdulaziz Yari said, his government invest huge resources on security sector without commiserate results, hence, the need for the community to be actively involved in intensive dialogue with a view to finding lasting solutions to the persisting security challenge facing the state.
Yari therefore directed traditional rulers and other stakeholders in each of the 17 emirates of the state to meet and discuss all issues perceived to be responsible for the security challenges and offer useful suggestions in dealing with the problem.
In his words ” each emirate has peculiar problem, though others may share certain common boundary challenges, but the new policy tend to address all challenges at respective emirates”.
The governor has already visited 9 out of the 17 emirates.
