The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has appealed for support and cooperation from communities in Zurmi Local Government of Zamfara to succeed in its operations in the area.
The Chief of Medical, the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Abuja, Air Vice Marshal, Sale Moyi-Shinkafi made the call on Wednesday in Zurmi while addressing beneficiaries of NAF free medical/surgical outreach in the area.
The NAF headquarters under its Medical and Surgical intervention programme on Tuesday started a three days free medical and surgical outreach to people of the Zurmi Local Government Area, targeting about 3,500 beneficiaries.
Moyi-Shinkafi noted that there was some security issues in the area when unknown gunmen attacked Birane village in Zurmi few months ago.
“As a result of that, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal, Sadeeque Baba-Abubakar directed the deployment of Air Force troops to this area to carryout operations.
“Our personnel have already been deployed to this area, we need your support and cooperation; we are here to promote security of this area.
“You should support us with useful information on security in order to enhance our operation to fight against criminal activities in the area,” he said.
“It is our tradition wherever we are operating, we provide social and medical outreach to the host communities, that is why we are directed by the Chief of Air Staff to come and carryout out this exercise.
“We are going to provide free medical and surgical services to people of this area under the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters Medical/Surgical intervention to mitigate the needs of the people.
“Our medical team have already been deployed and embarked on the exercise, to treat people with various health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, typhoid, malaria and eye problems.
“Out of the 3,500 beneficiaries, we are expecting to carry out between 150 and 200 surgeries including the general and eye operations during this outreach”, he added.
He thanked the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar for providing the support to the people of the area.
Moyi-Shinkafi urged people of the area to cooperate with the medical team for the success of the exercise.
The unknown bandits have attacked Birane village in Zurmi Local Government Area killing over 30 people and injured many in February this year.
Some beneficiaries, Malam Gado Akuzo and Yar-kanwa Bala thanked the NAF and the Federal Government for the assistance.
